Katie H

Peace Out Middle School

As soon as the bell rang, Katie left her seventh period class to go wait for Jadyn in front of the science room. They are best friends and always walk with each other to their classes. Jadyn is a super crazy hyper girl, and Katie is more shy and quiet, but that’s what makes them best friends.

They both had most of their classes together, which was good because they don’t really get to see each other outside of school a lot. They both have super busy schedules. Jadyn does dance and soccer, and Katie does cheerleading.

“Can you believe it’s the last day of school?” Katie asked. “I’M SO HAPPY!” Jadyn answered. They had an amazing year. Especially because they had an all-girls PE, that was their favorite class. They had Sarah and Meagan in there with them so it was always a great time!

They were both excited about going to high school except for one reason. “What if we don’t have any classes together in high school, you know there’s a lot more kids there.” Katie said. “Well we will find out tonight, and at least we will see each other the hallways.” Jadyn answered. This was true but they both knew it wouldn’t be the same.

Later that night Jadyn called Katie and she answered before the first ring even went off. “What’s your schedule?” Jadyn asked. “English, math, history, P.E, aiding, science, then art.” Katie said. “Exactly the same!” Jadyn screamed. They were both thrilled, this school year was going to be great! “I can’t wait!” Katie said. “Yeah, peace out middle school!” Jadyn replied.

The color wheel has many different uses. For example, if you had a color wheel to use you could incorporate complimentary colors into your work. Complimentary colors are colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel. The higher the contrast of the colors is, the more vibrant your artwork will look.

Vincent Van Gogh uses complementary colors in his famous piece, Van Gogh’s Café Terrace on the Place du Forum, Arles, 1888. He uses complementary colors in the areas of the painting that he wants the viewers to focus on. The bright contrasting colors make their eyes gravitate towards that area.

The first step in creating our tagxedo was to take pictures of each other in front of a white background, and uploaded them to our computers. Then, we made a list of about twenty words to describe ourselves. Finally, we uploaded the pictures to www.tagxedo.com, and added the words to our pictures. At the end of the project all the words will make up your face.

I think that the words I chose describe me pretty well. Some of the words I came up with myself and the other ones were what my friends said about me. The words that connect to me most are probably: Dedicated, kind, and happy. These words really mean a lot to me because they are some of the things that I always try to be.

This project really allows us to express ourselves. I think it is more of a true representation of ourselves than a regular picture, because it shows our personality. When you see a picture of someone all you see is what they look like on the outside, but in this project you can actually see them on the inside. I really enjoyed this project!

Graffiti Wall

Graffiti is writing or drawings sprayed on a wall or in a public area. People use graffiti to express themselves in an area where others people will notice it. For example, they will put their artwork on a very busy road or on a big public sign where others can see it.

To create a digital graffiti wall we went to http://postergen.com/graffiti-creator, and put in seven words to describe our self plus our name. Then we played with the colors and fonts until we liked it. Finally, we saved the image and applied them to a PowerPoint with a brick background.

I chose these words to describe me because I think they represent me well. I would really hope that other people see me this way to. My favorite word I have on there is “kind” because that is one of my goals every day.  I try to do at least one kind thing to someone everyday!

Food Faces

Some people believe that his paintings were whimsical and others believe that they were just the products of an insane mind. At the time riddles and puzzles were popular, so he catered his artwork to the taste of his times. His artwork was put together like a puzzle, and made people think when they saw his work.

I chose to use fruits in my artwork because I thought the bright colors and different shapes would look nice when put together. I mainly focused on the shapes when I created my food face. I used a large circular shape for my head, and small circular shapes for the eyes. Then I used small slices of fruits for the mouth and ears, and bananas for the hair. Lastly I used grapefruit, lemon, lime, and orange slices in the background for extra color!

I was born on February 12, 1809. Then, my whole family moved to southern Indiana in 1816. Finally we moved to Macon County in southern Illinois in 1830. That’s where I got job working on a river flat board hauling freight down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. A little later I won the election to the Illinois state legislature in 1834.

After being in the Illinois state legislature, I won the U.S. House of Representatives in 1864. The following year I started to serve my term. I later had to go in front of a crowd in Peoria to debate the merits of the Kansas-Nebraska Act with Douglas. As my term was nearing the end, I joined the new Republican Party.

I didn’t think it could happen, I got reelected! My first job for this term was to address the need to reconstruct the South and rebuild the Union on March 4th, 1865. After all that work, I just couldn’t carry out my vision of reconstruction. After this disappointment I decided to go to watch my favorite sport, wrestling. Then, go to the Ford Theatre to watch “Our American Cousin”. I think I will write about my experience tomorrow. See you guys then!

I believe we should take time out of instruction to build school spirit. This gets students excited about our school, and more students will come to football, volleyball, and basketball games. It might even help our sports time to play better, if they have more fans at the games.

Also, I believe that it can be a fun, little break from our normal activities. Sometimes if we get to take a small break from what we are working on then we will do better on our assignments. In conclusion, we will have better grades on classwork.

Lastly, this creates a cheery environment for our school. Nobody wants to go to a school full of unhappy people. When you learn a little more about your school and play some fun games, every once in a while, students will be more excited about their school. After all we are only in middle school once, so better enjoy it while we are here!

Zentangles are a combination of bands and fillers. Bands are narrow line segments that create a certain pattern, and fillers are big designs that fit inside the bands. Once you are finished with your zentangle all of the designs will inter-twine together.

To create the zentangles, we started with dying the paper. We mixed food coloring with shaving cream and dipped the paper into it. This created a tie-dye type design on our paper. Then, we started the actual patterns. Zentangles are made up of bands and fillers.

Zentangles are beautiful, calming art projects. Creating zentangles really relaxed me and made me feel peaceful. Even when I would mess up a little bit there was always another pattern I could use to cover it. I will definitely create another zentangle one day. I really enjoyed this project!

It all started at 7:23 PM, September 13th. Baby Jackson was born, he was a beautiful, healthy baby. His first few years of life were difficult times. He lived in Uganda with his mother, Anna. There was very little food and water supply there. Anna would give Jackson at least three-fourths of all the water she could get, so Jackson could live a happy life. He was her main concern. Soon, times started to get even more difficult as Anna became sick, and needed water just as much as Jack. She didn’t know what to do at this point. They had absolutely no food left, and couldn’t find any water anywhere. Then, at their most desperate time of need, a small family from Alabama decided to sponsor their family! Every week, Jackson and his mother both received food, water, clothes, shoes, etc. Jackson is five years old now, and is living happily with Anna and his baby sister, Allie, in their brand new home.

You should adopt rescue dogs instead of buying new. Four million dogs are put into shelters each year, and usually only one to one and a half million dogs get adopted. All the rest of those animals eventually get put down. That is terrible.

This problem wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for animal abuse. Seven to eight million dogs are abused each year, and only half of them go into shelters. This means that the other four million dogs would be living on their own. Hungry, tired, cold, and sick.

Dogs are abused every single day. Sometimes owners think by physically hurting their dog they are “punishing it”. This is wrong. No dog can ever do anything to deserve this type of “punishment”.

One way we can solve this problem is by making sure the owner is qualified for buying the dog. You could do a house inspection, or maybe even an interview! During this, you could inspect their living environment to make sure it’s suitable for a dog. You can also talk to the owner, and see if they’ve had any pets before.

Lastly, dog owners or any kind of animal owners, should only buy as many animals as he/she can take care of. It costs a lot of money to buy food, proper healthcare, boarding, etc. If you had to many dogs, you probably wouldn’t be able to do this.

These are just some of the reasons it’s so important to care for all animals. Treat them like you would treat yourself. They need love and care, just like we do.

Keep calm and carry on originated in WWII. This poster was one of the three made to hang during WWII. It was a close run between “Keep Calm” and “Your Courage”. The British government voted on the “Keep Calm” poster.

Soon after their decision, the poster was hung everywhere. This was to inspire the soldiers. It was hung in soldiers’ bedrooms, and on the battle field. It became very popular in this time period. It brought a little light on this dark subject.

One of the posters was found nearly 50 years ago. It was found in a bookstore called “Barter Books”. This store can still be found in northwest Alnwick.

The two other posters were put on reserve, only to use in a crisis. They never were used. Nobody knows where they were held. They haven’t been found to this day.

Over one-million copies have been sold since. They have become a worldwide phenomenon. The design has changed a lot since then. People have changed the design to say funny sayings. While making new keep calm posters, we should always remember the real reason this poster is used.
